    For many years I've been flying to Topeka on a fairly regular basis to visit the folks at NewTek. During this time I've had the opportunity to get early glimpses of several Toaster and LightWave 3D upgrades, the Flyer and other NewTek-developed technologies. Getting an insider's view of the workings of NewTek has always been an emotional, double-edged sword. On one hand, it is very interesting and enlightening to be able to learn about new products and follow their progress through the development cycle.
On the other hand, it is very frustrating to have extensive knowledge about something of interest to so many people and, because of non-disclosure agreements, not be able to talk about it.
    A few days ago I traveled to Topeka to discuss plans for the upcoming NAB trade show, and to gather information for a special report that we will be distributing at NewTek's pre-NAB meetings and at the Video Toaster User Pavilion. While I was there, I spent time with various NewTek staffers gathering the details on the 4.0 versions of the Flyer, Toaster System and LightWave 3D. NewTek has never had so many new products ready to show for NAB, and I could sense an even higher level of activity than the usua
l pre-NAB frenzy.
    One evening VTU Publisher, Michael Kornet, and I met with NewTek President, Tim Jenison, to discuss NewTek's presence at NAB, and to seek details about a long-rumoured NewTek desktop video product that would work on standard PC's. We spent the better part of the evening shaking our heads in happy amazement at what he told and showed us.  Because of the aforementioned non-disclosure agreements, it is not possible for me to discuss the features of NewTek's new product. These details will be revealed to the
public for the first time at NewTek's pre-NAB reception at 5:00 PM on Sunday April 9th at Caesar's Palace.
    I can say that my Michael and I were extremely impressed by the elegance of the new product. I don't mean elegance in terms of appearance (although it is quite striking), I mean elegance in the way it serves the needs of NewTek's installed base, while also throwing open the doors for dramatic future growth. This product is based on existing Video Toaster Flyer technology, and current Flyer owners will have a clear upgrade path should they choose it without sacrificing a single penny of their investment in
 their current Flyer hardware.
    I know it is cruel to tease, and I've probably said too much already, but I feel the risk is justified to encourage Toaster users, LightWave 3D animators and anyone else interested in videography, non-linear editing and videographics to make all efforts to travel to NAB next month for a first-hand look at this great new product. Not to mention LightWave 4.0, Flyer and Toaster System 4.0 and a whole bunch of Toaster and LightWave 3rd party developers at the Video Toaster User Pavilion.  I think I can say w
ith reasonable certainty, you will not be disappointed (unless you're a NewTek competitor.)
